Everett Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners approved the appointment of Mary Swenson as the new Executive Director for a one-year contract period, starting September 1, 2024, through August 31, 2025, during their July 31, 2024, Board of Commissioners Meeting. Swenson, whose extensive career in public service and administration spans over three decades, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the organization and most recently has been leading the organization as the Interim Executive Director since April 1, 2024.

Mary Swenson retired from the City of Marysville in March 2010 after a distinguished almost 33-year career. Rising through various administrative positions before being appointed City Administrator in 2001, she witnessed Marysville's growth from a small city of 4,700 to a thriving community of 58,000 residents. Swenson's collaboration with the Tulalip Tribes of Washington fostered a strong working relationship with the Tribal government, contributing significantly to the city's development. She was instrumental in crafting a robust economic development strategy for Marysville, ensuring the city's sustainable growth and prosperity. Marysville greatly benefited from Swenson's strategic vision and leadership.

Post-retirement, Swenson continued to serve the public sector as Interim City Administrator for the Cities of Stanwood and Lake Stevens in Washington State. She also lent her expertise as a Senior Advisor for Strategies 360, a prominent research, public affairs, and communications firm. Prior to accepting the position with Everett Housing Authority, Swenson was a Senior Consultant for GMP Consulting, where she excelled in interim Executive Level positions.

"Mary Swenson's appointment as Executive Director marks an exciting new chapter for Everett Housing Authority," said Koren Smith, Chair of the Board of Commissioners for EHA. "Her vast experience and proven leadership will be invaluable as we continue to serve the Everett and surrounding communities."

Swenson's contributions to public service extend beyond her administrative roles. She is a Past President of the Washington Cities Insurance Authority and has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for Allied Employers, the Washington City/County Management Association Board, and the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

"I am thrilled to join EHA as their Executive Director," said Swenson. "The mission of EHA is extremely important and valuable to the City of Everett and the residents we serve. I would like to thank the Board of Commissioners for their support, and I look forward to working with them to strengthen the organization."

Swenson will assume her role as Executive Director on September 1, 2024. For media inquiries or to schedule an interview with Executive Director Swenson, please contact: Heather Stults, Communications & Engagement Manager.
